I have a new piece in the “The Hi Fructose Group Invitational” titled “A Punk Named Django”. Show opens Friday March 11th 6-9pm and runs through April 2nd.

I’m also very proud to be a part of the “Inle” group show at Gallery 1988 Melrose. 100 artists interpret the anti-hero of Richard Adam’s WATERSHIP DOWN curated by Greg ‘Craola’ Simkins. Show opens tonight March 11 from 7-10pm and runs through April 8. My piece is below.

“Suggestivism” Group Exhibition

My “Where Crows Die” painting will be a part of a cool group exhibition . Join in the fun next Saturday, February 5, as an international array of artists tempt the larger art conversation with an outstanding visual array of works in one of Southern California’s taste maker institutions. Cal State University’s cutting-edge museum arm, Grand Central Art Center, will present a comprehensive survey exhibition (curated by yours truly) that explores and documents a select section of modern contemporary artists which make up the vibrant core of creativity existing in the current art world.

There will be special edition iPad skins available by our friends at GelaSkins, with funds going to charity. And the opening festivities will be hosted by Planet illogica, with goodies like premium chocolates, champagne and other fun surprises - with Hurley adding their trademark coolness to the mix joined by the fine folks at Juxtapoz. Also expect a handsome volume on the subject of Suggestivism to appear in the upcoming weeks from the esteemed Gingko Press and GCAC.

Main Art Gallery Suggestivism features over fifty contemporary artists whose work is inherently ambiguous, and organic in process. Curator Nathan Spoor believes they follow the ideals of “Suggestivism.” The term Suggestivism in art was first used in the late nineteenth century describing the organic process of making art, the loose mark-making, and the ambiguous narrative. Early modern art can be seen as examples of Suggestivism. However, Spoor’s contemporary examples begin with the organic process and follow through with ambiguous narratives, but the artwork is tightly rendered, and illustrative.

Conceptually speaking, the term suggestivism refers to the ability of an individual to pursue their purpose with an amplified understanding and sensitivity. The artists involved represent precisely this - a wave of purpose, working within the more fluid aspects of narrative or figurative arenas. Through the mere power of suggestion, the magic is transferred from one to another, engaging the world at large from the most vivid and evocative of visual realms. - Nathan Spoor, Curator

“The Idol Hours” Group Show

I’m in a group show at London Miles Gallery that’s a reflective study of historical master painters. It’s opens November 13th and features Tiffany Liu, Mike Bilz, Luke Chueh, and Travis Lampe to name a few. I chose 1 of 2 Van Gogh portraits where his ear is bandaged from being cut off. Fitting to my style as well as he’s from the same town my Dutch grandfather was born and raised.

“Tiger Tiger Burning Bright” Group Show

I’m participating in a group show at Roq La Rue Gallery in Seattle based around the theme of tigers, inspired by the dynamic poem ” The Tiger” by visionary artist and painter William Blake. I incorporated Luey into my piece titled “The Last Ride”.

2010 is the Year of the Tiger in the Chinese calendar, and the animal is a very visible example of the environmental problem of habitat loss and rampant poaching, with the reported last wild Indochinese tiger being killed and eaten in December 2009.
