Artist Statement

I love to create worlds where the dark side of human nature is present. Life isn’t always good times. While in our youth we experience many things we would rather forget but this is what defines us.  That’s why my characters have an adolescent quality to them.  I’ve been very fortunate in experiencing and hearing many great stories in my life which now find there way into my paintings.

After surviving cancer as a child, Bob Dobbie aka Bob Dob was forced to give up his dream of becoming a pro baseball player and his interest gravitated towards music and art. Growing up in Hermosa Beach, CA and playing in the punk band “Lunacy” for ten years, his exposure to the music scene in Los Angeles had a great influence on his art.

While focusing on music theory at a local community college, Dob began taking drawing and painting classes. Eventually his interest in art took over and he transferred to Otis College of Art and Design in 1998 where he earned his Bachelor's of Fine Arts Degree in illustration. His illustrated paintings featured Dob’s sardonic humor spotlighting pop culture icons, video game characters such as Mario/Luigi, beach culture stereotypes, historical references and Disney characters.

In 2004 Dob had his first gallery exhibition at La Luz De Jesus Gallery in Hollywood, CA. He has been a frequent participant in group and museum shows in the United States and Europe along with a dozen solo exhibitions. Professionally, his work has been featured worldwide in advertising campaigns by Kraft Foods, AFLAC, Intel and Hurley where Dob lent his most iconic characters to an artist series line of apparel.

His work has been collected by; Ian McShane, Conan O’Brien, Nick Cassavetes, Rupert Grint, and Kate Flannery.
