Recent Commissioned Paintings

Here’s a few commissioned paintings I did. I have a good time painting these water scenes. The buyer wanted me to include R. Crumbs Mr. Natural which was fun turning him into a more 3 dimensional character.

"The Calm Before the Storm"

"Wisdom"

And, I still haven’t caught that damn Raccoon. Here’s a chicken wired cover I’ve been putting over the pond and the trap I baited with bacon and hot dogs. I’m going to catch that bastard. Last time he ate the bait but didn’t trip the wire. I think we’re dealing with a huge Raccoon.

Bob-Dob,

We at home had problems with a raccoon tearing up the Iris beds in the upper pool of our waterfall. They are set up for filtration and little snails thrive in it. The ’suspected raccoon’ kept coming back to the same pool and tearing up the plants, while digging up the snails for his ’smorgasborg!’ We set up a trap like the one you have and we experienced a similar problem….the fuckers are to smart. They get the bait and don’t spring the mechanism. So, what we did was we used odd ends of 2×10’s (we probably could’ve used bricks too.) to elevate the trap of a false floor. In essence, we created a frame into which we placed the bait, in this case dog food kibble, and then, placed the trap so that the raccoon would start a frustrating adventure to get to the bait positioned right underneath the mechanism. We made also sure to weigh the trap down and place items around it so that the raccoon would feel like it is going into a secret compartment and not be all exposed. Within a couple of days a fat raccoon was caught in the trap. We took it about five miles away from our house, knowing that they have a tendency to return. On a hunch, we sat the trap up again, after cleaning it thoroughly with a hose. As any other might be scared by the ‘fright urine.’ Long story short, over several weeks, we caught a total of six raccoons and we are certain they are different animals and not the return one. In the past, when we had small koi in a shallow pool, raccoons would catch them, eat their heads off, and continue to catch more while neatly placing them in a row. I suspect they plan to gather them up when finished with fishing. We don’t have to cover the pond because it is about 15osqft, has deep spots about three feet deep, and lots of hiding places. We do inventory at least once a year, and the number of koi and goldfish hold steady at around 100. Something must be eating the frey because we never have any babies, but we suspect the mosquito fish and bullfrogs behind. Maybe this report will give you some clues of how to deal with your situation.

Hope all is well.

DaKoda
